Abstract
The presence of various bacteria and fungi in water leads to the formation of unpleasant odors. In this study, ferrite nanocatalysts were synthesized to eliminate these microorganisms. Different ferrite nanoparticles, including CuFe₂O₄, CoFe₂O₄, and NiFe₂O₄, were prepared using the co-precipitation method, and their structures were identified and confirmed. Structural characterization of these nanoparticles was carried out using various techniques such as X-ray diffraction (XRD), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and vibrating sample magnetometry (VSM). The antibacterial activity of these nanoparticles was investigated against Escherichia coli (Gram-negative), Staphylococcus aureus (Gram-positive), as well as some fungi. Among the studied nanoparticles, CuFe₂O₄ exhibited the most effective antibacterial performance. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) of CuFe₂O₄ against E. coli were 400 and 800 µg/mL, respectively—representing the lowest values among the tested samples. Therefore, the synthesized ferrite nanoparticles are safe, cost-effective, and stable compounds with strong potential for antibacterial applications.
