Abstract

In this study for determining the most proper cropping patterns of agricultural and horticultural crops, the basic information, including long-term climate data, crop phenology, crop coefficients, physical soil characteristics, and irrigation management, were collected. Crop water need was determined based on crop evapotranspiration and effective precipitation for the intended area. An optimization cropping pattern model was presented based on crop water needs and available information about production cost, income, and available water for six scenarios. The first scenario was based on maximum income and reducing the cultivation area; the second and third scenarios were based on minimum cultivation area and the first 5-year program for main crops and main crops without vegetables, respectively; the fourth and fifth scenarios were based on minimum cultivation area and the first 10-year program for main crops and main crops without vegetables respectively, and the sixth scenario was based on maximum income considering the limited resources. The results showed that the most value of economic productivity parameter is related to the fourth, fifth, sixth, second, third, and first scenarios, respectively. Based on the results of the optimized model and fourth scenario, the cultivation area of wheat and barley was reduced for all the cities of Yazd province, also keeping the cultivation area of pomegranate, increasing the cultivation area of pistachio was proposed in Yazd province. Additionally, the model based on the fourth scenario suggested increasing the saffron cultivation area for all cities of Yazd province.
